Energy Machines is proud to announce the successful commissioning of a turnkey integrated energy system at Bonnierhuset, Bonnier Fastigheter AB's historic high-rise office building in central Stockholm. The project marks a new milestone for sustainable urban energy, as the 75-year-old building becomes home to the largest geothermal energy installation in Stockholm’s city center.
Commissioned in November 2024, the new system transforms the energy profile of the 51,000 m² office complex, delivering 92% of its heating and 100% of its cooling needs from geothermal energy and the building's own waste heat. With the upgrade, Bonnierhuset shifts away from reliance on district heating and cooling, cutting CO₂e emissions by 82% and purchased energy by 80%.
Geothermal Energy Storage: 86 boreholes, each 320m deep, are drilled beneath the building’s car park, enabling seasonal storage and reuse of thermal energy.
Advanced Heat Pumps: Four Energy Machines™ EMA/EMB heat pumps with low GWP refrigerants efficiently manage the energy flow between the energy storage and building.
Control System: Energy Machines™ Control platform for seamless monitoring and optimization, ensuring a self-balanced system with no energy wastage.
Capacity and Impact:
The project demonstrates how low-carbon technologies can be integrated and seamlessly applied into existing buildings, significantly advancing decarbonization efforts and providing a tangible model for sustainable urban development.
''The project has been an exciting journey with both successes and valuable challenges. After just under a month of operation, we are seeing results that exceed our expectations and prove that a green transformation is possible in practice. We are proud of what we have accomplished and look forward to continuing to create value through innovative and environmentally friendly projects in the future," says Mook Changrachang, Energy Strategist, Bonnier Fastigheter.
